What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy is a service provided by an occupational therapist to help individuals develop, regain and/or maintain the "occupation" that they need for everyday function in their life. This may include play skills, school tasks, work responsibilities, upper and lower body dressing, feeding abilities, social skills, emotional regulation and so much more. The goal of occupational therapy is to improve our clients independence, confidence and overall quality of life. Just as "sonset" represents a transition, occupational therapy is a time to rebuild new skills while gaining confidence and moving forward into new beginnings. We see all ages from early childhood to late adulthood for occupational therapy services.
What to expect?
Evaluations: We will send intake forms to fill out prior to the evaluation date. During the evaluation, we will talk about concerns and daily challenges. We will also review over all medical and/or developmental history. We will also observe or assess current skills and answer any questions the client or the client's family may have during the evaluation. Standardized assessments and informal assessments will also be utilized in the evaluation. By the end of the evaluation, we will create a personalized therapy plan to determine the next steps and clients will be given a full evaluation report with findings from the evaluation session.
Therapy Sessions: After the initial evaluation is completed, we will set up a time for weekly therapy sessions. Therapy sessions are individualized and goal focused. Depending on the client's needs, sessions will include hands on therapeutic activities to build specific skills, evidence-based exercises to improve strength, coordination and/or mobility. Each session is designed to be practical and client centered as well as engaging while targeting the client's goals.

Meet Jordan
Hi, I’m Jordan, an occupational therapist dedicated to helping individuals build confidence, independence and meaningful skills in their everyday life. In high school, I shadowed several different professions and fell in love with occupational therapy after spending the day with a school-based OT therapist.
I earned my Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from Eastern Kentucky University in 2012 and am licensed in Florida. I am also certified through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
While I have experience working across a variety of settings and populations, my true passion lies in working with kids where I find the greatest joy in supporting their growth and development.
I have completed extensive continuing education in sensory integration, primitive reflex integration, Handwriting Without Tears, visual-motor development, vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT), The Listening Program, stroke re-education therapy, evidence-based treatments for traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and kinesiology taping (RockTape). I am also fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).
I have completed Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI – Levels A & B) to support motor development and functional outcomes in children with motor delays.
At Sonset Therapy, I strive to create a supportive and engaging therapy experience where each individual feels encouraged to grow, gain confidence and build skills that carry over into their daily life.
